Former New York Yankees superstar Derek Jeter was just as slick as he was on announcing the biggest news since put away his bat and glove just like how he was back in the day on the field.
After collecting championship rings, Jeter gave away one — an engagement ring.
The 14-time All Star shortstop introduced his new dog, Kane, to the world via a post on his website – The Players’ Tribune – and wittingly included the big news in his essay.
Known to be very private about his personal life throughout his 20-year pro baseball career, Jeter, who retired in 2014, revealed that the nearly 100-pound, 1-year-old Italian mastiff was a “gift last year from my fiancee.”
"There’s a lot to learn as a new dog owner. As I train him, I’ve also had to be trained. I’ve learned that dogs thrive on routine: regular walks, chasing a ball and lots of sleep. He probably loves to sleep more than anything, which is ironic because I’m getting less sleep than I ever did before." For Christmas last year, Derek Jeter received an Italian Mastiff from his fiancée. Hit our bio link to read his essay on being a new dog owner.
The five-time World Series pennant holder did not name who the lucky lady is, but it’s been common knowledge that he and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis have been together for quite some time.
Davis, 25, skyrocketed to fame after gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit edition, an honor given her after only two years in the magazine’s sexy lineup.
Before deciding to “put a ring on it,” the 41-year-old Jeter has had a few other high-profile relationships.
He was previously linked to A-listers like Mariah Carey, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, and Minka Kelly among others. Through all those hookups, Jeter has always remained to be New York’s most eligible bachelors.
But it has been a different story with Davis, who he’s been reported to be dating since 2012.
In a People interview in December 2014, Jeter revealed how he is looking forward to settling down and raise a family.
“Kids nowadays are going to be the leaders of the future, and the leaders for not only Jalen [Jeter’s nephew], but my kids one day when I have them,” he shared. “I look forward to being a dad.”
