“Game of Thrones” Season 6 premiere ended with a surprising ending showing Melisandre as an old lady. The scene of course produced rumors and speculations that “The Red Woman” in recent seasons is hiding his true form and age by looking young using her magic.
The latest and first episode of the new season supports that GOT theory and one GOT expert confirmed that Melisandre is in fact over 100 years old and even higher, basing on Game of Thrones sources.
“Judging by hints in the books (and other semicanonical sources), we can safely put her age somewhere north of 100 years, and possibly into the 400-year range,” Jason Concepcion of The Ringer explained.
“The most obvious clue that Melisandre isn’t what she seems involves her using a “glamor” spell to disguise another character who is thought to be dead. At one point, the disguised character fights a member of the Night’s Watch at Castle Black in front of a crowd.”

Concepcion continued that fans can estimate Melisandre’s age through the books.
“The books also suggest that she’s been around for an inhumanly long time. In one scene, while gazing into the flames in her chamber at Castle Black, she thinks about how she’s “practiced her art for years beyond count” and in doing so has “paid the price,” Concepcion added.
“Though she requires only one hour of sleep per day, Melisandre wishes that she “would not sleep at all” because of the nightmares of her previous life as a slave named Melony. (A quick aside for the book readers: The “Melony” reference makes me think it’s highly unlikely that Melisandre is actually Shiera Seastar, a character from the prequel novels who was rumored to have age-extending powers.)”
Back in 2012, Carice van Houten, who plays The Red Woman in the Game of Thrones series, also mentioned her own theory of the Melisandre character and age.
“She definitely has certain powers. I don’t how old she is, but she’s way over 100 years, so she is a wiser spirit, in a way, but it’s difficult for me to say too much because A — we want it to at least stay sort of a mystery and B — I didn’t read the books (laughs),” Carice van Houten said via Access Hollywood.
How old is Melisandre? 100 years old at least according to one Game of Thrones expert and fans can’t wait to see how her powers can help the ones loyal to Jon Snow at Castle Black.
