Early Wednesday reports of FC Barcelona star Gerard Pique and his girlfriend Shakira embroiled in blackmail over their sex tape have been doing the rounds. But now the Barcelona star and his world famous singer girlfriend Shakira have denied claims that they have been blackmailed over sex tape by a former employee.
Earlier it was reported that Pique and his girlfriend are facing a blackmail plot by a former employee over an alleged sex video of the couple.
Diario Vasco was the first to report the news claiming that the Barcelona defender who earns £130,000 a week and his pop star girlfriend have been threatened by a former employee with the publishing of a video containing “erotic content” if they do not part with a “big sum of money”.
Pique’s spokesperson however has denied the claim that the report was true.
The couple have two sons, two-year-old Milan and 11-month-old Sasha from their five year relationship.
Shakira aged 38 met Pique, ten years her junior when the Spanish star featured in her music video for the single Waka Waka (ThisTime for Africa), the official song for 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The news of Pique and Shakira’s alleged home-made sex video comes just two weeks after Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was formally charged in connection with an alleged sex tape blackmail plot against French team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.
Benzema was arrested by judicial police in Versailles, west of Paris, in connection with the case, although his lawyers insist that he played “no part” in the attempt to extort money from his fellow France international.
According to Spanish law, blackmail is punishable by a serious jail term.
Benzema faces a prison sentence of at least five years if found guilty. Investigators are also trying to determine the extent to which Benzema was aware of the intimate video featuring Valbuena, which found its way into the hands of blackmailers.
Pique played for the Barcelona junior teams at the age of 17 in 2004 and joined his senior career with Manchester United after leaving Spain.
He spent four years at Old Trafford – although one season included a loan spell at Zaragoza – and made 23 appearances before returning to Barcelona in a £5m deal in 2008.
Pique has experienced significant success at Barcelona, including five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies to his credit. He has also made 72 appearances for Spain, winning the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2012.
Shakira, a Colombian singer burst the English music scene with her fifth album, Laundry Service whose single Whenever Wherever became the best-selling single of 2002.
Shakira has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide since her career began in 1990 and her net worth is estimated to be around £144m.
