Lethal Weapon fans were greeted by the good news that the small screen adaptation of the hit movie franchise was extended to a full season adding five more hours to expand its episode count to 18. And at such an opportune time as the show now promises to explore the past of Riggs and Murtaugh in the upcoming episodes.
According to sources, the fifth episode, Spilt Milk, involves Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) investigating an ex-navy seal who has turned to a life of crime. In his study of the criminal’s psyche and personality, he is also able to draw up some similarities with Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) who also had a stint with the military. This link will also put Riggs at a crossroads, given the link that he has with the suspect.
With the parallelism between Riggs and the ex-navy seal, viewers may get a deeper view of the Lethal Weapon lead’s tumultuous past, which included being an assassin in Vietnam and Laos to losing a wife after an attempt on his life.
Lethal Weapon: Highest fall debut for Fox in two years
The series extension was actually very much expected well into the first two episodes of the series after delivering Fox’s highest fall premier in two years. Its debut, which aired September 21, gained an average viewer count of 11.5 million across all platforms.
“Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart,” shared David Madden, president of entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Company. “Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for Empire. We are thrilled to add these episodes to Lethal Weapon’s first season.”
Lethal Weapon is based on the hit movie franchise which starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. It spawned four movies and created a loyal fan-base thanks to its non-stop action and comedic dialogues.
The fifth episode of Lethal Weapon will be airing on Fox this October 19.
