Aimee Garcia of the series “Dexter” and “Rush Hour” adds her versatility as she becomes part of the newest point of interest of Tom Ellis and his character. Garcia has been cast as a new addition to Fox’s police procedural hit series “Lucifer,” which will start airing its Season 2 on Sept. 19.
Garcia joins “Lucifer” together with Tricia Helfer, who has been cast to plays Tom Ellis’ mom who escaped the gates of Hell. Garcia, 37, will play the role of Ella Lopez, the LAPD’s new forensic scientist who is both brainy but spiritual at the same time. Her character, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter (THR), will be one of the new points of interest for the former Prince of Darkness. Season 2 will mainly focus on locating Lucifer’s mother, who managed to escape Hell and is ready to bring her rampage in the City of Angels.
“Ella is described as brainy but spiritual, warm but tough. She grew up in a pretty rough neighborhood in Detroit, but also in a strong Catholic family, under the watchful and protective eye of her five brothers… which might explain some of her opposing personality traits. It also explains why she’s always felt comfortable in the tough, male-dominated world of law enforcement. Her mutual belief in both faith and science proves a point of interest to Lucifer (Tom Ellis), and the rest of the department, as they get to know and love her quirky ways,” THR noted.

Together with Helfer, Garcia joins other mainstays of the show that includes Lauren German (Det. Chloe Decker), Kevin Alejandro (Det. Dan Espinoza), D. B. Woodside (Amenadiel), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen), Scarlett Estevez (Beatrice, nicknamed “Trixie”), and Kevin Rankin (Det. Malcolm Graham). It is still not known how Garcia and Ellis’ paths will get tangled as Lucifer will be pretty occupied working his way to convince “mom” in going back to Hell and how will she affect the relationship of both Lucifer and Det. Chloe Decker as well.
Showrunner Joe Henderson has explained that the show’s first season was about “a wayward son dealing with his father issues; Season 2 is Mom.” However, Henderson added that they will still stick to the “friendly” relationship between Lucifer (Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren).
The beauty of this is that Henderson and the rest of the creative team can hype up to mix the show’s characters and see how it goes down. Henderson explained that with the actor’s awesome chemistry on and off the set, it is easy for them to mix them up and come out with a strong story line.
“What I am very proud of is that we have this amazing cast, all of whom have chemistry with each other. Now it’s up to us to put them in situations where similar to the finale’s Chloe and Maze, we can see who else bounces off each other in ways we didn’t expect,” Henderson added.
Yes, we have mad love for the @LUCIFERwriters. They are the coolest. Said ironically, since Hell is🔥.
