Director of hit movies Armageddon and Transformers, Michael Bay have been linked to rough work relationships with actresses before and ignited a spark on his issues with his workmates as Pearl Harbor star Kate Beckinsale speaks out on her experience with the director.
Kate guest starred on BBC One’s The Graham Norton Show last Friday and mentioned how Michael cared more about her appearance rather than her acting abilities during the production of Peal Harbor.
“I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blonde.” said the British actress.
She recalled how she was still asked to work out and cut down on weight when she already lost weight after having her baby and said that she did not understand the reason why a 1940s nurse would need to do that.
Kate also expressed her insecurity during the promotional days of Pearl Harbor, when Michael was asked why he chose Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett for the leading roles and the director would respond that he has worked with Ben before and loved him, and described Josh as a very manly and wonderful actor. However, when the director was asked about Kate, he would say that “Kate wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience.”
Bay also had previous issues with other actresses he has worked with, for instance calling Titanic star Kate Winslet “pretty, but not overwhelmingly beautiful,” and having a public feud with Transformers star Megan Fox, with Megan comparing him to Adolf Hitler and later apologizing for it.
