MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, starring Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput is not stopping in terms of box office collection. The 2016 biopic on the famous Indian cricket captain is slowly inching towards the Rs 100 crore ($21 million) club.
Despite performing well in the box office, there is one person who is disappointed with how the story has been told. Mohammad Kaif, former India international felt that his character was wrongly portrayed in the movie. The 35-year-old however, was quick to suggest that he was impressed by the rest of the highly emotional drama.
In the movie, there is a sequence when Dhoni’s One Day International (ODI) debut for India was showcased. The player was on the receiving end of a run out and scored a duck on his very first appearance for the country. It was Kaif, who was batting on the non-striker’s end of the pitch.
The movie highlighted Dhoni’s childhood friends commenting that the runout was because of Kaif. It was due to Kaif’s lack of communication that the man from Ranchi, India was unable to open his scoring account when debuting for the country.
“In the movie though, in his run out in his first ODI, Dhoni’s friends said, ‘Kaif ka galti tha. Nahi bhai, mera galti nahi tha. (It was Kaif’s fault. No brother, it was not my fault).’ But, phenomenal life story and an inspirational man – Mahendra Singh Dhoni.” Kaif said, as reported by dnaindia.
Meanwhile, the Neeraj Pandey directed venture is already breaking many records at the box office. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has already made the second highest weekend opening of 2016 behind Salman Khan starrer Sultan, according to indiatoday.in.
Sushant Singh Rajput, who has been hailed critically for his brilliant portrayal of Dhoni will next star in Dinesh Vijan’s Raabta. Kriti Sanon, known for Diwale will star opposite the 30-year-old.
