NCIS New Orleans Season 3 just premiered this week but one big revelation came up that shocked the fans of the show. Apparently, Zoe McLellan will no longer continue to portray her role as Agent Meredith “Merri” Brody as she has reportedly left the show.
According to Morning Ledger, McLellan’s departure was an act of ‘creative decision’ by the show. In the final episode of Season 2, Agent Brody was deceived by Homeland security agent and also her boyfriend, John Russo, played by actor Ivan Sergei. Russo turned out to be a traitor and had been a spy all along and even though Brody saved the day during the show’s finale, reports say that this incident marked the exit of Agent Brody from her team. She was axed by Team Pride, lead by Dwyane Pride (Scott Bakula) in order to stop her from inflicting any more damage to the team.
Although McLellan’s departure was reportedly due to the showrunners’ ‘creative decision’, according to Movie News Guide, speculations suggest issues involving her love life, work and her son, Sebastian.
After the divorce was settled between McLellan and ex-husband J.P. Gillian, rumors say that McLellan is now in a dating status. This suggest that the actress couldn’t balance work from her personal life. Moreover, rumors also suggest that McLellan wanted to spend more time with her son after having to battle custody because of her divorce with Gillian.
Meanwhile, McLellan’s exit paved way to a new cast member in NCIS New Orleans Season 3 played by Vanessa Ferlito. She will also play as an FBI special agent.
“The first episode back showcases the city in such a beautiful way, and Vanessa’s fantastic,” he said. “The energy that she brings to the show, I just think it’s going to be a new, fresh dynamic that’s going to be great for the rest of our cast,” Gary Glasberg said when asked about Ferlito’s performance in Season 3.
