NCIS Season 14: Michael Weatherly returning to help the show from being cancelled

By on

When Michael Weatherly announced his departure from the longest-running American police procedural drama series NCIS before the start of season 14, long-time fans of the show were disappointed and it seems the viewers have spoken given the significant drop of its ratings recently.

According to the Parent Herald, due to the major change that occurred to the show after Tony DiNozzo’s, played by actor Michael Weatherly, exit to the team, the current season of NCIS is experiencing a steady drop in terms of ratings to the point where talks of cancellation are being rumored.

The same outlet reported that there was a 12.50% drop in ratings in the current season of the show while on average, it is already down by 11.86% compared to the previous ratings of the series. Fans are also giving negative feedback on the current season giving rise to speculations of its cancellation.

However, with CBS previously announcing that NCIS has been renewed for two more seasons, it seems despite Weatherly’s departure the producers already have plans to improve the show’s storyline.

In fact, the show is bringing back Tony DiNozzo in an upcoming episode which will air on November 1 titled Home of the Brave, according to HNGN. However, Robert Wagner will be portraying the role as he is going to be introduced as Weatherly’s DiNozzo’s father who is also named Tony DiNozzo. Hence, a new Tony DiNozzo is going to be on the show.

The older DiNozzo will be appearing in episode 7 where his son’s colleagues, Abby, (Pauley Perrette) McGee (Sean Murray) and Bishop (Emily Wickersham) will try to persuade him in renting out his son’s lavish apartment.

As fans recall in the previous season, Weatherly’s DiNozzo’s apartment was highlighted in a fun-based episode where his colleagues were surprised on how did DiNozzo could afford such an extravagant apartment given his limited amount of salary.

Meanwhile, Michael Weatherly is currently headlining CBS’ new comedy drama TV show, Bull. NCIS has given the actor a fitting exit as his character left the NCIS team after he found his long-lost daughter and went on to live with her in the previous show’s season finale.

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
