Actress Madeleine West is set to make a dramatic return to the long running Australian series Neighbours this coming December nearly 13 years after her character’s death. She will be reprising her role as nurse Dione “Dee” Bliss, the deceased wife of Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney.
West revealed her comeback to news.com.au, saying that it was like a homecoming for her.
“It is a very rare and wonderful thing when an actor has the opportunity to step back into the shoes of a character they created, even more so when that character had not been seen for some 13 years, and was one as beloved as Dee Bliss,” she said.
The soap star continued: “For me, this return to Neighbours is something of a homecoming, to the place where I took my first tentative steps into the entertainment industry, and where I truly learnt my craft.”
As the show’s fans remember, the ill-fated nurse appeared to have met her demise when her husband tragically drove off a cliff on the way to their honeymoon. While Toadfish managed to survive the accident, his new bride’s corpse was never found. After thirteen years since the episode was aired, fans have been questioning about what happened to the missing-presumed-dead wife.
As part of the show’s 30th anniversary celebrations, the ultimately tragic wedding day between Dee and Toadfish topped a national fan poll of favourite storylines.
In line with this story, avid fans are hopeful for the possibility that other dead characters will be making a return to the said series. Kate Ramsay, portrayed by Ashley Brewer, is one of the names that keeps getting thrown around. The scene that was aired in 2014 showed that she tragically died minutes after being proposed to by Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor).
However, this news is debunked by a report made by Dailystar stating that it “is probably not what the fans are expecting.” According to the Neighbour’s official Twitter account, “Kate’s dead. She’s really, absolutely, definitely dead. Official.”
Neighbours airs weekdays on Channel 5.
