It seems Outlander fans can’t get enough of the Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe love story as numerous reports continue to swirl of their rumored dating status although the two co-actors have already denied them.
However, a recent interview of Sam Heughan on Vanity Fair seems to hint that the two main stars’ relationship are on the way of being more than just friends status as the actor admitted that he is having a hard time when they are apart from each other.
Fans already know by now that the latest installment of Outlander will be based on Diana Gabaldon’s third book of the Outlander series, Voyager, so Heughan who plays Jamie, will be filmed most of the season without his reel (or real) love interest Claire, played by Balfe, in the upcoming season.
The publication asked Heughan what it was like to film the upcoming season without Balfe, to which the actor replied that filming season 3 without Balfe is like “having a death in the family” and likened himself to his character where Jamie had to struggle in coping that Claire is gone and try to live with himself.
“Honestly, it’s like having a death in the family,” Heughan said in the interview with Vanity Fair. “Well, I don’t know, I mean, it’s just like a different show. It’s hard to separate yourself from the character. Jamie’s present, living in his world, and Claire’s present and living in her world, and they both believe the other is dead.”
It is expected that the two actors will film Outlander season 3 apart from each other but numerous reports suggest that a Jamie and Claire reunion will be seen in the upcoming installment. As the reel couple are already comfortable filming together, the actor said that filming season 3 made him realize how he misses Balfe.
“It’s always hard when we’re apart, actually, because she’s a great person, great to come to work with, and a very good actress,” Heughan said. “But I think it all adds to the reunion—if there’s a reunion, or when there’s a reunion—well you know there’s one in the books. It should be very special.”
It remains to be seen whether the two actors are dating or not, but one thing is for sure, Outlander fans will be more than happy if and when the ship officially sails.
Outlander season 3 will return to Starz sometime in 2017.
