Rumors: Substance abuse pushed Angelina Jolie to file divorce against Brad Pitt

After 12 years of being together, actress Angelina Jolie is ready and determined to call it quits with husband Brad Pitt. Rumors are swirling that Jolie filed for divorce, citing substance abuse mixed with liquor and irreconcilable differences.

TMZ reported that Jolie filed the divorce papers last Sept. 15 and is asking for custody to their six children. The report notes that Jolie is willing to grant visitation rights to Pitt and is not asking for any spouse support.

Sources revealed that Pitt is an addict to weed and mixes it with alcohol that brings out an anger issue. Jolie feels that the with Pitt’s mood, it endangers the children. Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, noted that the 41-year old actress made her decision for the health of their family.

Jolie also belied rumors that a “third party” is involved in the situation and explained that Pitt’s interaction with the children was the main cause. Jolie and Pitt were an item since 2004 then decided to get married in 2014.

Offer added that Jolie will not comment on the divorce and wants people to respect their privacy. Jolie had told The Telegraph that as a couple fights are pretty normal as they do have certain issues to talk about.

“We have fights and problems like any other couple,” Jolie said. “We have days when we drive each other absolutely mad and want space, but the problems in the movie aren’t our specific problems.”

Jolie and Pitt have six children namely Maddox and Pax, Zahara, who are all adopted, and biological children Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Jolie is known for her charity work as she got appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for 11 years. She also became a special envoy to the UN in 2012. The following year, Jolie underwent a double mastectomy to cut her chances of getting breast cancer. Two years later, she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a preventive measure against cancer.

The couple was last seen on-screen in the romantic drama “By The Sea.” They were also last seen as a family in July when they treated their son Knox to a birthday breakfast at the Griddle Cafe in West Hollywood.

Pitt told People that he is saddened by the turn of events and is only thinking about the well-being of their children. He hopes that people would understand and respect Jolie’s privacy on the matter.
