If it wasn’t for Simon Cowell’s help then probably Zayn Malik wouldn’t be as successful as he is today.
But now, the TV mogul is blasting the former One Direction member calling him “rude” after the singer criticised the band’s music.
In an interview with Fader magazine last month, the 22 year old singer called the boyband’s music as “generic” and claimed that all individuality was stripped off from their material.
“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,” he says.
“If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as fuck, so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us. There was just a general conception that the management already had of what they want for the band, and I just wasn’t convinced with what we were selling.”
“I wasn’t 100 percent behind the music. It wasn’t me. It was music that was already given to us, and we were told this is what is going to sell to these people. As much as we were the biggest, most famous boy band in the world, it felt weird. We were told to be happy about something that we weren’t happy about.”
But looks like Simon is hardly impressed from the singer’s claims. In an interview with The Mirror, Simon insisted that all five members contributed to the music.
“It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them. And to the other band members. I mean they all wrote a lot of the stuff,” Simon told in the interview.
Zayn rose to fame as one fifth of One Direction after the band was formed and mentored by Simon Cowell in 2010 on The X Factor show.
Meanwhile, One Direction recently announced that they are taking an 18 month break to concentrate on their solo projects. The band had their last performance at X Factor’s finale two weeks back where Louisa Johnson became the youngest contestant to win the show.
