It’s official! James Wan has confirmed a Conjuring spinoff and threequel. The latest Conjuring 2 has been a box office hit among moviegoers and James Wan is not about to let the concept go.
As Conjuring 2 continue to inspire fear and suspense into audiences all over the world, director James Wan has already developed an idea for The Conjuring franchise’s future.
The Conjuring Spinoff
Characterized by its hollowed dark eyes and ashen complexion, the Nun has made a fearsome stamp on the viewers. She almost did not make it to the screens if not for James Wan. The character was originally a horned devil. James Wan did a late pitch for the demon nun after the wrap. As luck would have it, his idea was approved, Hollywood Reporter notes.
For the scaredy cats who can’t help but be curious about the demon Nun and her background, she will finally be given the spotlight and avenge her shadowy role from The Conjuring 2.
The Nun will be the second spinoff after Annabelle, which produced $256 million gross income in 2014. New Line has lined up The Nun spinoff for release in 2017.
The Conjuring 3
A sequel is not enough to satisfy director James Wan. He has revealed that this is not the end of The Conjuring experience for the Warrens. On a roll, James Wan has already conjured an idea for the upcoming third film in the threequel.
However, he has decided to keep it under the wraps. What is known though is that the Warrens will finally show moviegoers paranormal cases from the 1980s.
“I do have something specific but I’m not going to say it. But I will say this – I do think Conjuring 1 and 2 are both set in the 70s, I think Conjuring 3 has got to be set in the 80s,” James Wan told IGN.
And what’s more, the franchise may not end yet with a threequel.
“They do have a lot of stories so I think, organically, if we’re lucky enough to tell future chapters, there’s a lot of stuff we could be pulling from,” he added.
