The premiere of the eight and final season of The Vampire Diaries is nearing its release and the fans are going to be taken in an emotional and nostalgic ride, which will end in a way that is done right by the fans as promised by showrunner Julie Plec.
This coming Friday, the fans will be treated to a bittersweet memory of The Vampire Diaries series as it is the beginning of the end of Mystic Falls and its characters. The upcoming final season will pay homage to past seasons of the series as a way to bring closure to the show’s narrative arc.
In a recent interview with TV Guide, Julie Plec spoke about her plans of bringing back a bunch of old characters and themes so that fans can bid them a proper goodbye. As there was a lot of things that the show has introduced over the last seven seasons, it is unclear how will the showrunner bring them all in a single season but she said that they are “putting a lot of love into it and “gonna end it right.”
#TVD premieres Oct 21. Today on set we hit the halfway mark of our final season. We're putting a lot of love into it. Gonna end it right.

“We have a lot of plans to pay tribute to everything we’ve done in the past,” Plec said. “Our plans probably outweigh our real estate of space to actually accomplish all of it. But we’ve had a lot of fun in the room just reliving our favorite moments and our favorite characters and trying to think of really clever ways to reintegrate elements of the show from the past.”
This could mean that fans could get to see the return of old characters such as Tyler Lockwood and iconic Mystic Falls events like the carnival in season 2, Miss Mystic Falls, decade dances and Founder’s Day. Each episode of the upcoming season will also be titled after lines of dialogues from the show which hold particular meaning to Plec and her team of writers.
However, when asked about Nina Dobrev’s return to the show, Plec did not give a definitive answer although she is hoping for the actress to come back. As fans would remember, it has been widely rumored that Dobrev has a rift with lead actor Ian Somerhalder who plays Damon Salvatore.

With Plec promising to end the show in a way that does right by fans, many would agree that the right way would be for the actress to return and reprise her role as Elena Gilbert. Although it has yet to be confirmed, rumors suggest that TVD producers would like to keep Dobrev’s return a surprise and won’t be appearing until the finale.
It remains to be seen whether Elena would be awaken in the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries, but until then, fans will have to tune in on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8PM on The CW to see the truth.
