There is no exact premiere date for Vice Principals Season 2, except for a hint that the series might return in summer of 2017. Just like the usual school year, the Vice Principals required to take a break in the entire summer to let their students wait until they resume their classes next year.
Latest Vice Principals Season 2 spoilers mentioned that there is no slated season three for the series after its season season scheduled after summer of 2017. This is because the HBO series itself is already a prolonged movie about the two aggravated high school vice principals Neil Gamby (Danny McBride) and Lee Russell (Walton Goggins) in North Jackson High School.
Furthermore, Danny McBride has already told earlier during his interview with Variety that Vice Principals is only a long movie sub-divided into 18 segments. Because these segments were already filmed and divided into seasons, there is no way to shoot another episode for the sake of continuing Gamby and Russell’s journey in their positions as high school vice principals.
“The whole series is only 18 episodes and that’s it. We just wanted to make a really long movie. It’s one school year and a complete story. This was an old screenplay that Jody [Hill] and I wrote back in 2006. But we needed it to be longer so we added and reworked it and broke it up into 18 segments,” he said.
He also added that HBO trusted them much that none of them were watching, while they’re working on the episodes. Moreover, the nature of the plot doesn’t intend to compete with the current market. In addition to that, Catermatt noted that McBride is not a typical American actor who loves projects structured as a long series.
The source mentioned that he rather works with shorter-series model, since he often prefers these types of shows. Consequently, Vice Principals became outstanding and unique compared to the rest of the HBO-aired shows.
This is also the same reason many fans felt disappointed that Season 2 is the last. In response to the fans’ dismay, McBride said that they merely wanted to “march to our own beat” and to tell stories without compromising anything.
In the meantime, fans should wait until summer of 2017 ends when HBO announces the exact Vice Principals Season 2 premiere.
