Will Alicia Vikander surpass Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft in new Tomb Raider film

Alicia Vikander has got big shoes to fill as it was confirmed on April that the Swedish actress would be playing the role of Lara Croft in the third Tomb Raider film. She will be replacing 41-year-old actress Angelina Jolie, who has made the Lara Croft character an icon.

Will she be able to surpass her performance? Angelina Jolie really seemed to be a natural fit for the role, and some fans feel that Alicia Vikander isn’t as muscular or busty enough to portray the kind of image of Lara Croft we have grown accustomed to.

In terms of talent, however, Alicia Vikander seems a great choice. She gained widespread recognition in 2012 for her role as princes Alexandrovna in the film adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and made a breakthrough performance in A Royal Affair.

She stars alongside Matt Damon in Jason Bourne.

Like the Bourne series, Alicia Vikander has been a fan of Lara Croft in the movies, and she’s played the video game when she was a teenager. She feels that’s what makes her fill in the roles easily, ‘cause she has a strong familiarity with the storyline and the characters.

She believes that Angelina Jolie has done a tremendous job in making Lara Croft such an iconic figure in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raiser and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.

She wishes she could meet Angelina Jolie in person, but on whether she would be a better fit for the new role of Lara Croft is not what fans should ask.

She isn’t interested in asking for advice either.

“What we’re doing is something quite different since they rebooted the game in 2013. It’s a whole new take. We’re doing a film of that game.” Vikander said, revealing that the reboot will be more of an origins story.

It’s going to be different, and even authentic, so to speak, going back to discovering the secrets of the island of Yamatai, and following Croft’s development. It’s based directly on the 2013 game reboot. This way, the audience will get to know Lara Croft from a different perspective.

Perhaps one will get to know the character from an emotional perspective, and this is where Alicia Vikander’s talent as an actress will be showcased.
