Just two days into the Australian Open and we already losing key players.

Venus Williams made her first round exit at the ongoing Australian Open at the hands’ of Great Britain’s Johanna Konta, 6-4, 6-2.

The 35 year old who was seeded No 8 after her brilliant 2015 season thanks to her quarterfinals reach at the Australian and US Open however, was no match for the 24 year old Konta today probably because of the heat.

Konta however, is happy over her win and as FOX Sports reports her first reaction on seeing the draw was that- she just hoped she could last “more than an hour” against the 7-time Grand Slam champion.

She immediately took to Twitter to express her happiness and posted: “Such an awesome experience being on Rod Laver. Thank you for the support! asicstennis @babolat.”

The match held in the Rod Laver Arena court then saw Williams making a quick exit.

Venus and sister Serena Williams will not be playing doubles this year in Melbourne so guess this is the last bit that we have seen of Venus. Serena, meanwhile is through the first round and is ranked top seeded on the women’s singles side.
