FIBA News: Tony Parker confirms to play in Manila Olympic Qualifiers

Tony Parker of France may suit up for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying tournament in the Philippines.

The French basketball team will now have a big boost as San Antonio Spurs’ point guard, Tony Parker confirms his participation for the Olympic Qualifiers that will be done in Manila, Philippines.

Parker is expecting another baby from his wife near the time that the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers will be played. He further explained that he had to make a huge sacrifice and had to negotiate so much for his wife to allow him to play.

As quoted from L’Equipe:

“Yes, I’ll be ther for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and I will be in the Olympic Games if we qualify. I want to play for France.”

“I’ve had many discussions with Axelle (Parker’s wife) and we agreed. We had to make the decision for us both. She knows how important it is for me. We evaluated the situations and I’ve made my decision.”

The France national team will boast a lineup full of NBA players to join Parker with Rudy Gobert, Boris Diaw, Evan Fournier, Nicholas Batum, Ian Mahinmi, and Nando De Colo. Joakim Noah has yet to confirm his participation as he will also check if he will be 100% for the tournament.

France will have a tough task on facing the home crowd of the Philippines during the opener and will also face New Zealand in their bracket.

Upon winning their bracket, the team that is expected to come out to face them as the favorites are the Canadian basketball team.

Canada will have multiple NBA players in their lineup namely, Andrew Wiggins, Tristan Thompson, Kelly Olynyk, Corey Joseph, Anthony Bennet, Nik Stauskas, Robert Sacre, Dwight Powell and Joel Anthony.

The Olympic qualifiers will be held from July 4-10. The winner of the bracket will punch their ticket to Rio De Janerio for the Olympics that will be held from August 6-21.
