Ricky Rubio has been mentioned in many NBA trade rumors this offseason and deal by the Minnesota Timberwolves involving their starting point guard could happen during the season, according to an NBA analyst.

There is belief in Minnesota that Kris Dunn will be the top rookie in his class and has superstar potential. Developing him early will be good for the much-improved Timberwolves and dealing Rubio is seen by midseason.

Bradford Doolittle of ESPN Insider reports that it could be the right time for the Timberwolves to part ways with the Spanish point guard if Dunn plays well early in his rookie season.

The NBA analyst also believes that trading Rubio for a wingman would be beneficial for Minnesota and not the earlier NBA trade rumors that they want another big man in the line-up.

Early in the summer, a Rubio to the Philadelphia 76ers trade has been talked about. Mentioned in the trade speculations were Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor, both of whom could be a good fit with Timberwolves stars Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

With the new reports that Rubio will be traded for a wingman, or players who can provide shooting for Minnesota, which guard/forwards are available in the trade market?

Rudy Gay or Arron Afflalo from the Sacramento Kings could be good options for Minnesota but both are already old to pair with their young guys Towns and Wiggins.

The Sixers remain the perfect fit for Rubio because they lack a starting PG but except for big men they don’t have wingmen to offer the Wolves.

The Pelicans will be good trade partners if they are willing to give away young wingman Buddy Hield. Rubio with Anthony Davis would be a good duo to have with Rubio’s passing and Davis’ athleticism.

Finally, the San Antonio Spurs will need a replacement for the aging Tony Parker and Rubio could be their long-term point guard. However, the Timberwolves might not settle for someone like Danny Green and other role players. San Antonio can give up a future first round pick but that’s not appealing since the Spurs are title contenders.
