With the acquisition of Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors upgraded their “Death Lineup” to “Super Death Lineup” months before the new NBA season starts. Experts have placed the Warriors squad as the top favorite to win the next NBA title and there are even rumors and speculations that they can outdo themselves and break the 73-9 record last regular season.
Last year, the Warriors featured a five of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green, which everyone called as the “Death Lineup”. The group, which is mainly “small ball” in basketball, outperformed and dominated other teams’ line-ups for majority of the season.
This new season, the Warriors will feature the same four, Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Green plus Durant, who left the Oklahoma City Thunder in the most shocking free agency move in recent offseasons.
Like last year, the improved “Death Lineup” or the “Super Death Lineup” is expected to dominate teams in the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
But which teams are capable of matching the Warriors’ “Super Team”? Fansided.com listed a number of teams that can challenge the Warriors “Super Death Lineup” plus their fun names.
Dallas Mavericks: Deron Williams, J.J. Barea, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki
Atlanta Hawks: Dennis Schroder, Kyle Korver, Kent Bazemore, Thabo Sefolosha and Paul Millsap
Minnesota Timberwolves: Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, Andrew Wiggins, Brandon Rush and Karl-Anthony Towns
Orlando Magic: Mario Hezonja, Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo
Detroit Pistons: Reggie Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris, Jon Leuer, Andre Drummond
Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Jabari Parker, Thon Maker and John Henson
The most interesting take from the site is the Wolves’ best five, which does not include Ricky Rubio, who has been part of NBA rumors this 2016 offseason.
The Magic and Bucks’ “Death Lineup” also includes two big men and that might not work against the speed of the Warriors. The Hawks’ version has the speed but could be too small for Golden State.
Which among these teams have a chance to find similar success with the Warriors?
