The Houston Texans are coming off their first loss of the season and will now have to play without star defensive end J.J. Watt, who has re-injured his back, according to latest NFL rumors.

Yahoo Sports claim, basing on their “league sources” that Watt is headed to the injured reserve (IR) list. According to other reports, the team believes Watt re-injured his back in the 27-0 shutout loss to the New England Patriots last Thursday.

J.J. Watt could be out for the season for the Texans, which allegedly rushed back their star defensive player to playing after his offseason surgery in the last offseason.

Watt was ineffective in the blowout loss to the Patriots with 27-year-old defensive end recording just two tackles. For the season, he only has eight tackles and 1.5 sacks but the Texans are lucky to have won their first two games despite disappointing stats from their top defensive end.

Watt had never missed a game in his NFL career so this is the first time he won’t be suiting up for the Texans, which are considered Super Bowl contenders this season.

Watt is eligible to rejoin team practices in six weeks and eight weeks to actual games if the NFL rumors are true that he’d make the IR list this week.

It’s all speculations that Watt will be shut down this season with the Texans performing well and battling a postseason slot. Houston will likely bring him back again for the latter part of the season and they need Watt for the playoffs.
