It’s the Carolina Panthers versus the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 on Sunday evening as star quarterbacks Cam Newton and Peyton Manning try to lead their teams to the coveted NFL title.
Manning and Newton have only met once before, in 2012 when the Broncos beat the Panthers, 36-14.
With Newton, the Panthers’ offense is the most dangerous this season as Carolina leads the league in scoring at 31.3 points per game while the Broncos rank just 19th at 22.2 points per game in the regular season. The Panthers scored a combined 80 points against the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals in their previous two games.
The Broncos are the better team defensively allowing just 18.5 points in the regular season and just 283.1 total yards per game or first in the league. The Broncos held the Pittsburgh Steelers to 16 points in the AFC divisional round match-up and Tom Brady’s New England Patriots to 18 points in the AFC championship game.
The Panthers can play defense also, leading the NFL in interceptions. Manning played just 10 games in the regular season but has been intercepted 17 times already this season. The Panthers also lead the league in total sacks.
For the third straight NFL season, the top seeds from the AFC and NFC have made the championship game. The Panthers are playing in their first-ever Super Bowl while the Broncos are appearing in their eight Super Bowl, tied for most appearance all-time in the history of the league.
