Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal dominating tennis the past decade or so have made the current generation the “Golden Era” in the sport, according to former tennis pro and coach Stefan Edberg.
Edberg also saw his golden years in tennis when he won six Grand Slam titles from 1985 to 1992 so he knows what he is talking about with regards to which generation is the best in the history of the sport.
“This generation with Djokovic, Nadal and Federer has been winning more than 40 Grand Slam titles combined in the last decade,” Edberg shared in Swedish to Goteborgs-Posten. “It’s a Golden Era of players that have brought tennis to another level, they have been totally dominating during a decade. It never happened, so it’s a unique generation.”
Edberg had high praises for the tennis’ elite trio of Novak Djokovic, the current World No. 1 and former top players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal but he singled out the Swiss for being consistent a pro, both “on and off the court”
“I am especially impressed by Roger as person, both on and off court; I can confirm he is the best ambassador tennis has today. He has a greatness that few have, a charisma and interest for tennis. He has had an amazing journey and he will continue to have it for a while,” Edberg added.
Edberg knows Federer as he coached the Swiss Maestro from 2014 to 2015. Edberg’s influence to Federer was more of being a “mentor than a coach” according to the Swiss himself.
Tennis has seen the domination of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal for more than a decade now, Edberg is just stating what every fan knows already.
