EA Sports has officially announced the release date of Madden NFL 17 will be on August 23, 2016. The cover athlete of the 27th edition of the game, as well as the gameplay trailer, will be shown ESPN SportsCenter on May 12, 2016.

According to Brian Mazique of Forbes, Madden NFL 17 will be available for consoles such as PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. After the announcement of the release date, NFL Madden 16 cover athlete and New York Giants star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. tweeted a photo of him being the cover of this year’s game.

However, Mazique mentioned that he reached out to EA Sports senior publicist Brad Hildebrand for some comments regarding this year’s cover. EA told him that Beckham Jr. is just campaigning to become the first player to be on the cover of Madden for back to back years.

The likely cover for Madden NFL 17 is reigning NFL MVP and Carolina Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton. The cover athlete this year will not be decided by voting, unlike the previous years.

On the other hand, the first trailer of the game is rumored to have gameplay footage and some snippets of the visual enhancements. Last year’s game got positive reviews from critics and the new Draft Champions mode was praised.

As mentioned in a previous report, EA Sports has released the ratings for all the 2016 first-round picks in Madden Ultimate Team mode.  It is expected that full ratings will be available shortly.

The top five overall picks of the 2016 NFL draft got the highest overall rating at 84 and a potential rating of 95. Those players are Jared Goff of the Los Angeles Rams, Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles, Joey Bosa of the San Diego Chargers, Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys and Jalen Ramsey of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
