In celebration of the beginning of NBA 2016-17 season, Sony is launching PlayStation Tournaments via a new partnership with the Electronic Sports League which will go live on NBA 2K17 as a PlayStation 4 feature.

The announcement was made through the official PlayStation blog which will allow players to sign up and search for competitions that will be organized by the ESL. The new Tournaments feature that will be available on PlayStation 4 will initially support 1-on-1 games, but upcoming enhancements will be made according to the players’ needs.

PlayStation 4 players interested in participating the NBA 2K17 tournament must have their own copy of the game, an account with the ESL and an active PlayStation Plus membership. Players who do not have ESL account will be assisted through the registration process.

The Major Tournament for NBA 2K17 will begin on October 27 up to November 26, with Major Cup rounds to happen every Saturday. The top three players who will win in the Major Tournament will receive prizes that include items such as a DualShock 4 controller, PlayStation gear and many more.

The NBA 2K17 Major Tournament’s signup process has already begun so players need to signup before it starts. Players who already signed up for the tournament will get their tournament schedule through the PlayStation 4 system which will send out reminders on when the match will take place.

Once the tournaments are live, details of the tournament will be shown under the Events section of the PlayStation 4 system menu. The games in NBA 2K17 will feature a traditional game of one player going up against another player, each controlling separate teams. It will not be held in either MyPark or 2K Pro-Am modes.

Details on how will the players get to choose their teams or what teams to choose from have not been clarified yet as without a restriction, most players might be selecting the Cleveland Cavaliers or Golden State Warriors. More details will likely be released as the October 27 tournament draws near.

PlayStation Tournaments will be held for more games in the near future, including Mortal Combat X and Project CARS. Meanwhile, European PlayStation 4 owners can already signup in tournaments for NBA 2K17, WRC 5, FIFA 17 and Project CARS.
