The San Francisco Giants had an up and down season. The “Even Year Magic” was defeated by the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS. The latest MLB rumors imply that the Giants are looking for an outfielder and they are being linked with Ryan Braun and Andrew McCutchen.
Giants in need of outfielder
According to Brendan Smith of FanSided, the Giants are in need of an outfielder this offseason. Veterans Gregor Blanco and Angel Pagan are going to be free agents and they might not be returning to San Francisco.
The Giants have already been rumored to be interested in signing Yoenis Cespedes. However, a decision will not be made until the winter meetings this December. San Francisco has also inquired about the availability of Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees.
Giants linked with Ryan Braun and Andrew McCutchen
Besides Cespedes and Gardner, the Giants are now being linked with two All-Star outfielders. According to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, the Giants are perfect fits for Ryan Braun or Andrew McCutchen. The two All-Stars have been linked with many MLB teams this offseason.
Both stars are in reasonable deals but their respective teams would want a good haul of prospects. Braun is still a great offensive player and he still has four years on his current deal. Some of his potential suitors besides the Giants are the Dodgers, Braves, and Phillies.
On the other hand, McCutchen had a down year and the Pittsburgh Pirates have a center field prospect on the way. Teams such as the Blue Jays, Indians, Cardinals, Phillies, Braves, and Athletics are linked with the 2013 NL MVP.
Other stars available for trade this offseason
Cafardo also listed other stars that could be available for trade this offseason. Besides Ryan Braun and Andrew McCutchen, All-Stars such as Joey Votto, Justin Verlander, and Joe Mauer might have new teams heading into the 2017 season.
