Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow showcased his baseball skills in front of about 40 scouts from 28 different MLB teams on Tuesday. The latest MLB rumors suggest that teams such as the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are interested in signing Tebow.

However, Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski ended the MLB rumors linking the former Heisman Trophy winner to Boston. He told the NESN pregame show that they are not in a hurry to sign Tebow.

“We did our due diligence. I don’t want to say anything negative because other teams are looking at him. But I don’t think we’ll be rushing out to make a signing,” Dombrowski said.

On the other hand, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons thinks that Tebow will not get signed just because of his name. He noted that anyone who wants to play professional baseball should have started at a young age.

“I’m sure somebody will give him a shot just because of who he is, I would think. The odds are stacked against him, that’s for sure. Maybe the greatest athlete ever, Michael Jordan, tried it and it wasn’t easy for him. There’s something about baseball: you start young and you have to do it over and over and over again,” Gibbons told The Toronto Star.

And as for the New York Mets, general manager Sandy Anderson did not rule out signing Tim Tebow. He told reporters on Wednesday that they have some interest in the former quarterback but noted the negatives from Tebow’s showcase.

“We had a scout there, and we got a report back and understand there are some rough spots and deficiencies that you would expect from somebody that’s been away from the game. We’ll see where it goes,” Alderson said, via Newsday.
