New York Yankees prized young starting pitcher Luis Severino is having a terrible start to his first full MLB season. According to the latest MLB rumors, the Yankees may have to demote Severino to get his confidence back after his 15-day stint on the disabled list due to an injury.
In his first seven starts of the season, Severino has a record of 0-6 with a whopping 7.46 ERA. He has also given up 49 hits including 8 home runs and issued 10 walks in just 35 innings pitched.
The 22-year-old was then pulled out after just 2.2 innings pitched in his start against the Chicago White Sox on Friday after suffering pain in his throwing arm. He gave up seven hits and seven earned runs before he was taken out.

According to ESPN, Severino underwent an MRI but no serious injury was found. He was only suffering from a strained triceps which was enough to get him to the 15-day DL. Yankees manager Joe Girardi thinks that his young pitcher’s problem is his command.
“He had no command. Bottom line, he had no command. He was not throwing the baseball where he wanted. He walked guys, he left balls up, he missed his spots. No command,” Girardi said.
The media then asked him if the team is considering demoting Severino and let him gain his command and confidence in the minor leagues.
“Well, I mean we talk about a lot of things. I haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk to anyone yet,” he replied.

The struggles of Severino has cause problems for the Yankees rotation since some of their starting pitchers are already full of questions marks. Michael Pineda is also struggling while Nathan Eovaldi has been very inconsistent.
On the other hand, CC Sabathia is on the DL and Masahiro Tanaka is the only their reliable starting pitcher. Severino has to find his confidence back in order for the Yankees to have any hope of having a good season this year.
