It is probably common knowledge by now that Amanda Nunes wants to defend her UFC women’s bantamweight belt against no one else but the former owner of the title- Ronda Rousey.

And it also seems that she has every right, having handed Miesha Tate a devastating loss at UFC 200 via rear-naked choke, establishing her place on the top of a competitive division. Since then, she has had a menu of options for her next fight including names like number three contender Valentina Shevchenko and number five Juliana Pena.

However, it is well and clear that Nunes wants the only fighter in the division who has seemingly been the only one to hold on to the bantamweight belt longer than any of the other past champions in her division.

“I don’t know anything yet, I’m waiting for the call. It’s highly likely (a Ronda Rousey match), right?” shared the champ with Combate. “If they ask me who I want to fight, I’m going to say I want to fight Ronda. I’m not running from anyone, I’m the champion and I can choose who I’m going to fight. I will choose what’s best for me and Ronda would be ‘the’ main fight, that’s why it has to be against her, it has to be with Ronda.”

Amanda Nunes vs Ronda Rousey at UFC 207?

Should a fight ever take place between the two UFC stars, fans should already rule out the possibility of the bout taking place at UFC 205, though, as Dana White has already confirmed that Rowdy will not be ready by that time (and the fight card has already been announced).

So all that’s left now are UFC 206 in Toronto and UFC 207 in Las Vegas.

And according to sources, Nunes claims that things are not yet set for her next match in the Octagon, but a fight at UFC 207 in Las Vegas is “highly likely.” Couple this with persistent rumors of Ronda Rousey’s return and UFC fans COULD be in a treat by year-end.

But as always, with the UFC, it’s all up in the air up until the opening bell. (Though it would be really awesome to see a Rousey return on New Year’s Eve, against Amanda Nunes, nonetheless.)
