So, Conor McGregor wakes up in the morning and out of the blue decides to send out a tweet announcing his retirement. But is Conor McGregor’s announcement a big deal?
Here’s the thing. Like Kim Kardashian’s famous photograph on Paper magazine which broke the internet, Conor McGregor’s tweet too broke the internet.
Conor McGregor’s tweet sent the entire MMA world and fans into meltdown. Along with Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor is the most famous face of UFC.
The timing of his tweet couldn’t be more appropriate because he was scheduled to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200 on July 9.
However, then just like out of the blue he decided to retire, similarly out of the blue he released a statement on Thursday stating that he is not retiring.
Could this man ever stop?
In his lengthy statement posted on Facebook, the Irishman states that he is just trying to do his job and fight. More importantly, he is paid to fight and not promote.

Ouch! That must be a hard slap on UFC President Dana White who has always been fond of McGregor. Does this mean that Conor wants additional money if he is to promote a fight? But he did promote his previous fights, right?
Conor McGregor’s tweets then seem to be nothing but a promotional gimmick. Here’s why:
- Announce Retirement out of the blue
Conor McGregor is the star of UFC. So, when the star speaks people take note of it. His one retirement tweet sent people into meltdown.
Result: People started talking about him and UFC 200 more.
I have decided to retire young.
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya's later.

2. Follow WWE stars
So, immediately after announcing your retirement follow WWE stars to build up the suspense. And Conor McGregor did the same. He followed WWE stars Shane McMahon and Triple H on Twitter.
Result: People started speculating ‘Is Conor McGregor joining WWE?’ The icing on the cake was the tweet by Becky Lynch which added more fuel to the fire.
3. Tweet about an announcement and then delete it
So, to break the internet again, tweet about announcing. But wait! Delete that tweet. It will add more suspense to the already fishy plot.
The Conor McGregor is a GENIUS!
4. Tweet again about announcing. But this time, tweet it like you mean it.
This time, don’t play games around. And tweet that you’re really going to announce.
Conor McGregor, you are pure ‘GENIUS’. Period!
Ok no more games.
I am going to release a statement shortly.

5. Announce to the world ‘You Are Not Retiring’
Boom! You just broke the internet again, Conor McGregor. Kim Kardashian should definitely learn some PR skills from you. Salute!
