Conor McGregor says he will beat Floyd Mayweather, responds to PPV boxing tease

Conor McGregor is not going to back out from any word war as he blasted Floyd Mayweather saying that he can beat him.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is not going to back out from any word war as he blasted Floyd Mayweather saying that he can beat him. The feisty Irishman responded with a pose of his own which further fuelling their supposed “dream match.”

McGregor posted on his Twitter account with a caption “1-0,” which means that McGregor can beat Mayweather and that the caption speaks of his first win in professional boxing. In an interview with Esquire, McGregor boldly predicted that he could easily put away Mayweather in 30 seconds.

“I don’t look at a man who’s an expert in one area as a specialist,” he says. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing’s best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds.”

This was McGregor’s respond to Mayweather’s post of their supposed “dream fight” wherein they were to meet on Sept. 17 at the T-Mobile Arena of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather even convinced boxing Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach to accept training McGregor in preparation for their fight.

Roach on the latest edition of “Inside MMA” on AXS TV confirmed that Mayweather is dead serious on booking the fight, but Roach explains that it would take time for McGregor to be ready to face Mayweather. He also stressed that if there is anybody who could face Mayweather straight up it would be McGregor.

“Well there’s a lot of rumors out there that I’m getting calls from Conor [McGregor] asking me to train him, but they’re not true. They have not called me yet. It would take me three years at least to get him [McGregor] ready to fight,” Roach said.

He added that McGregor still needs a lot experience if he wants to be on par with Mayweather, whom he calls as the best boxer in the world.

“Mayweather is the best boxer in the world and he would not even lose a round against a guy with Conor’s experience. He looks like an okay boxer, he’s a very good MMA fighter, but this is boxing. He’s kind of a beginner at boxing,” Roach added.

One thing is sure in all of this, UFC president Dana White has not approved of any fight to take place sending a message to Mayweather’s camp that their “dream fight” will continue to be a dream not unless the UFC permits it. Eventually, if it does take place it will be the biggest sports spectacle ever to be staged this year.
