Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino will be making her highly-anticipated UFC debut on May 14. “Cyborg” will be facing Leslie Smith at UFC 198 in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil.
“I’m super excited about finally fighting in the UFC and making my debut in front of my hometown. I am very thankful to the UFC for finally giving me the chance to show the world why I am the baddest woman on the planet,” Justino told Yahoo! Sports.
The 30-year-old Brazilian was considered as the best woman fighter not in the UFC. “Cyborg” will have to drop down to 135 pounds or fight in a catchweight since the UFC has not created a women’s featherweight division, yet.
She is the reigning Invicta FC featherweight champion and has won her five fights with the promotion. Her recent fight against Daria Ibragimova ended in the first round via a knockout last January 16.
If “Cyborg” wins her UFC debut, is she open to fighting rival Ronda Rousey? “I would love to fight Ronda. [But the] question is: does Ronda want to fight me?” she answered.
Many fans were hoping for a “Cyborg” vs. Rousey bout but the latter shockingly lost to Holly Holm back in November. “Rowdy” is not yet cleared to return to Octagon but has been making progress as she can bite an apple again, per CBS Sports.
There is also the fact that Holm recently lost her title to Miesha Tate that could make the UFC women’s bantamweight division more interesting. The current champion is open to fighting “Cyborg” despite being friendly to each other. The two women along with Holm will be appearing in the action film “Fight Valley” on April 7.
“I am open to that fight. Maybe doing it at a catchweight at 140. You know, I have nothing but respect for ‘Cyborg.’ She freaking eats girls for breakfast. She’s amazing,” Tate said via MMA Fighting.
