Jon Jones is scheduled to return inside the Octagon at UFC 197 on April 23 in Las Vegas against Ovince Saint Preux for the interim UFC light heavyweight title. Jones was supposed to face Daniel Cormier, but the current champion pulled out of the fight due to a foot injury.
In a recent interview with The MMA Hour, “Bones” took the time to fire shots at his rival. He called Cormier an “absolute coward” and a “mental midget” for not wanting to fight him again.
“Daniel is an absolute coward who will never beat me. And I say that not from an arrogant place, I say that from a place where me getting my belt back means everything to me. I represent that belt as a big part of my life,” Jones said.
“Daniel is a mental midget. I’m not worried about Daniel. Him inviting ‘OSP’ shows he’s so lucky to watch from the sidelines and not in the cage with me,” he added.
However, “DC” immediately responded to Jon Jones and his comments. The 37-year-old champion called his rival a “bitch” and “hypocrite” on several posts on his Twitter account.
Jon jones I have never been afraid of you or anyone in my entire life. You calling me coward is insane. Your day will come bitch.

Remember jones I didn’t call u coward when u moved our 1st fight due to injury hypocrite. That’s biggest word I’ll use when talking to u.

Jones and Cormier have faced each other, back in January 2015 with “Bones” winning via a unanimous decision with all judges scoring the bout 49-46. The 28-year-old Jones was stripped of his light heavyweight title and suspended last April 28, 2015, after a hit-and-run incident.
He was reinstated in October 2015 with Cormier becoming champion while Jones was suspended. The two fighters have been taking shots at each other ever since their match was scheduled.
If Jones can defeat Saint Preux at UFC 197 and Cormier can recover from his injury, they could face each other at UFC 200 or at the UFC event in New York sometime later this year.
