Few days before UFC 209, Khabib Nurmagomedov throws some insult to the reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. “The Eagle” called the McGregor-Alvarez UFC 205 bout “fake” and claimed that his upcoming fight against Tony Ferguson is the real lightweight championship.

“100 percent I think this is real championship fight,” Nurmagomedov told reporters at today’s UFC 209 open workouts. “I don’t care about (McGregor). You guys know Uncle Dana (White) give him gift. He jump over all contenders, and he fight for the title.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will face at UFC 209 for the interim lightweight championship. As most people expect, the winner of the bout will be facing Conor McGregor for the title unification. Nurmagomedov and Ferguson both called out “The Notorious” after he defeated Eddie Alvarez.

However, McGregor decided to take a “10-month off” to spend more time with his family. When he returns, he’s expected to defend his title against either Nurmagomedov or Ferguson. Unfortunately, McGregor recently stated that fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. is his main priority.

As of now, the super fight between him and the undefeated boxing champ continues to make noise. Though the details are yet to become official, McGregor and Mayweather both want the fight to happen. UFC president Dana White already expressed his disagreement with the super fight since McGregor is still under contract with the UFC.

If McGregor insists on fighting Mayweather first, the UFC could force him to relinquish another belt. Recalling after he defeated Alvarez, McGregor succeeded to make history by becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously. However, his reign didn’t last long after he relinquished his featherweight belt.

McGregor’s failure to defend the featherweight belt to then-interim champ Jose Aldo forced the UFC to make such a decision. If he will do the same to either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson, it will not be a surprise if he loses another belt.

Khabib Nurmagomedov not worried about Conor McGregor

UFC No.1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov isn’t impressed with Conor McGregor despite beating Eddie Alvarez in a dominant fashion. Nurmagomedov insists that his upcoming bout against Tony Ferguson will determine the best 155-pound athlete in MMA.

“He caught him a couple times, he go down, Eddie Alvarez – this fight for me is a fake fight,” Nurmagomedov said. “I don’t think about him. We have real fight now. This is like the people’s main event. This is one of the biggest fights of 2017, of all time in the UFC. I think about other guys? Of course not. I’m going to make my win-streak a 25-win streak, take belt, become the new UFC lightweight and undisputed and undefeated champion, and after we’ll see what happens.”
