UFC lightweight No. 1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov offered to pay Tony Ferguson additional $200,000 to fight him for the interim lightweight title. However, “El Cucuy” refused the money, believing that the UFC should be the one paying him.

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are patiently waiting for their chance to fight for the lightweight title. Both fighters expressed their intention to challenge Conor McGregor for the belt. However, after beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, UFC president Dana White revealed that “The Notorious” will be taking a “10-month off“.

This made Nurmagomedov decide to challenge Ferguson for the interim lightweight title. In his Twitter account, the undefeated Russian MMA fighter offered Ferguson extra $200,000 just to fight him in the Octagon.

Tony Ferguson also wants to fight Nurmagomedov but for a certain condition. He wants to receive the same exact money that the Russian fighter will make in which the UFC is not willing to do. After hearing Nurmagomedov’s message, Ferguson refused the offer and said that the UFC should give what he deserves.

“If you’ve got Khabib willing to sacrifice his life and give me $200,000 of his own money, something’s wrong with that (expletive),” said Ferguson in an interview on The MMA Hour.

“I’m not going to take that guy’s money. He’s got a family too. So do I, and he’s got bills to pay. So I’m not going after Khabib’s (money). All I want is my stuff right and to be compensated for what my numbers prove to be.”

With McGregor has a long vacation, the featherweight and lightweight division are in a huge dilemma. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo expressed his intention to move to the lightweight division for the interim belt. The decision came after Max Holloway turned down their title unification bout at UFC 208.

Though he easily reclaims the belt, Aldo still aims to face “The Notorious” to avenge his past loss. He challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov for the interim lightweight title. But the Russian fighter didn’t accept the fight, believing that it is a complete mismatch.
