Rafael dos Anjos is quite desperate to be a part of UFC 200. According to his manager Ali Abdel-Aziz, the Brazilian wishes to fight either Nate Diaz or UFC welterweight titleholder Robbie Lawler in a champion versus champion superfight at the July 9 event, reports MMA Fighting.
The reigning lightweight champion even challenged Lawler earlier this month. Although he respects Lawler, Dos Anjos won’t mind moving up in weight division to fight him. Conor McGregor was expected to move up from the current featherweight division but unfortunately he lost to Nate Diaz at UFC 196.
However, according to the report, the UFC has other plans for Rafael dos Anjos.
Dos Anjos was scheduled to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 196. But the Brazilian withdrew from the fight due to a broken foot. Nate Diaz stepped in the last minute and defeated the Irishman, McGregor. Prior to their scheduled fight, Dos Anjos and McGregor engaged in a lot of mudslinging at each other.
Dos Anjos previously met Diaz in Dec 2014 where he won over Diaz by unanimous decision at UFC on FOX 13. The Brazilian’s most recent win was over Donald Cerrone in December last year. He defended his title within 66 seconds into the fight.
UFC 200 is expected to be held at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show is expected to be a big event just like UFC 100.
