TJ Dillashaw: Faber does not deserve title shot

By on

TJ Dillashaw wanted an immediate rematch with Dominick Cruz for the men’s bantamweight title. He did not get his wish instead the UFC announced that it will be Uriah Faber who will challenge Cruz for the title in UFC 199.

In an article that was published in MMA Fighting, Dillashaw expressed his disgust on the UFC’s decision on awarding the title shot to Faber instead of giving him his rematch. Faber will meet Cruz for the third time in a rubber match in June 2016. The two met in 2007 and 2011.

“I am pretty pissed. Faber isn’t deserving. The only way this guy has stayed relevant during the last year is talking s— about me,” Dillashaw said. “I just had a very competitive fight with Cruz. I don’t think Faber has a chance. I hope he does win, but it’s all about giving him his last titles shot now.”

TJ Dillashaw and Dominick Cruz fought each other at UFC Fight Night 81 at the TD Garden in Boston. The former was still holding the bantamweight title while the latter came back from injury. Cruz won the fight via split decision to become the new men’s bantamweight champion again.

Uriah “The California Kid” Faber last fought at UFC 194 where he won by unanimous decision against Frankie Saenz. The Faber – Cruz rivalry stemmed from WEC 26 in 2007 when Faber won by submission. Cruz then returned the favor at UFC 132 and has trash talked Faber and his team since winning the title.

Dillashaw plans to stay in shape and prepare in case one of the two pulls out. “I am going to be ready and stay in shape in case one of them gets hurt. One of them is old and the other constantly gets hurt” Dillashaw added.

Dominick Cruz vs Uriah Faber III serves as co-main event for UFC 199 which will also feature the rematch between Luke Stronghold and Chris Weidman. It will be held at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
