Tony Ferguson took a shot at UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor ahead of his upcoming bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209. “El Cucuy” believes “The Notorious” is on his way out of fighting and just trying to use Floyd Mayweather Jr. as an excuse.

“It’s a marathon, not a sprint. And the difference is a lot of people that float up to the top really quick, they just keep floating and they go away. That’s what I see Conor doing, he’s on his way out. He’s using Mayweather as an excuse to come out of the woodwork but this is a real man’s sport and if he wants to go into boxing and get his ass kicked over there then that’s up to him,” Ferguson said.

Tony Ferguson will be facing Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209 for the interim lightweight championship. The winner of the bout will fight the reigning UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor for a title unification. After beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, McGregor decided to take a “10-month off” to await the birth of his first child.

However, from the time he returns, “The Notorious” revealed that the super fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be his main priority. As of now, there is no official confirmation about the details of the bout. Also, UFC president Dana White insisted that the fight won’t happen since McGregor is currently under contract with the UFC.

Tony Ferguson says Mayweather will definitely beat McGregor

With this, the UFC will surely force McGregor to fight the winner between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov.  Like most people think, Ferguson also believed “The Notorious” has no chance to beat Mayweather. McGregor may be an incredible striker but there’s a big difference between fighting in the Octagon and in the boxing ring.

Tony Ferguson believes that people really want to see is a fight between him and Conor McGregor. “El Cucuy” vowed to submit McGregor once they face each other in the Octagon.

“But the real fight that everyone wants to see – and who doesn’t know who to put their money on – would be the McGregor/Ferguson fight. Why? Cause I’m gonna smash that fool. I’m gonna submit him. You already saw him being submitted. That dude tapped before he even got the choke locked in. So I don’t know, man. I don’t even know if I would want to waste my time on that kind of dude. He doesn’t meet my fight standards. The only dude right now that meets it is Khabib,” Ferguson said.
