The UFC officially announced, pulling Jessica Andrade out for the main card at UFC 207 citing unavailable opponents. As the UFC rebooks Andrade, the flyweight bout featuring Louis Smolka against Ray Borg gets pushed in the main card.
MMA Junkie first broke the news about Andrade as the UFC could not find a suitable opponent on short notice. Andrade flew to Las Vegas Monday with hopes the UFC is locking a deal for her opponent but to no avail.
Andrade, a strawweight contender, was to face Maryna Moroz but an injury made the later back out. The UFC managed to talk to Angela Hill, but the bout still fell short for various reasons. The fight against Andrade would have opened the main card of UFC 207 in pay-per-view.
The 25-year old Brazilian made progress since dropping to the 155 lbs. category earning two victories this year. Andrade defeated Jessica Penne then overwhelmed Joanne Calderwood to sport a 6-3 record in the UFC. The future remains bleak for Andrade as the UFC tries to rebook her for next year.
Louis Smolka vs. Ray Borg, the replacement
With Andrade’s fight shelved for the moment, the UFC decided to push the flyweight division bout featuring Smolka vs. Borg. Both fighters are coming off separate defeats hoping to make their bounce in the Dec. 30 match in Las Vegas.
Smolka establishes a four-fight winning streak before bowing to Brandon Moreno via first-round submission at UFC Fight Night 96. Meanwhile, a younger Borg aims to make his mark in the UFC after scoring three victory fights.
His winning streak got snapped at UFC Fight Night 82 with his loss to Justin Scoggins. It is an interesting match as both fighters with contrasting styles aim to get back on track in the Octagon.
UFC 207 headlines with women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes makes her first title defense against former champ Ronda Rousey. It will also co-headlined by the men’s bantamweight featuring Dominick Cruz against Cody Garbrandt.
It will also pit former heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum against Cain Velasquez, while former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw meets John Lineker.
