UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson are set to have a rematch at UFC 209 on March 04 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

At UFC 205, Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson engaged in a breathtaking fight that resulted in a majority draw. After the fight, UFC president Dana White revealed that they’re planning to schedule a rematch between the two fighters. “Wonderboy” continues to campaign to fight Woodley at UFC 209.

“There was no winner to the fight, so let’s just say it didn’t even happen,” said Thompson (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) backstage at this past Saturday’s UFC 206 in Toronto. I know he’s calling out other guys, but I know I’m the right guy to face him.”

UFC CONFIRMS WOODLEY-WONDERBOY 2

On Monday, the UFC granted Thompson’s wish and confirmed his rematch with Tyron Woodley at UFC 209. Recently, the two fighters exchanged jabs on Twitter.

Before the Woodley-Thompson 2 became official, the UFC welterweight champion expressed his intention to fight other champions like Conor McGregor and Michael Bisping. After “The Notorious” won his second belt, there are speculations that he’s eyeing to add another one in his collection. However, McGregor is currently taking a “10-month off” and has no specific date of return.

Recently, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping posted a video on Instagram where he and welterweight champion Tyron Woodley reached a verbal agreement to fight each other. The super fight is expected to take place at 180 lbs where no belt will be on the line.

Unfortunately, for Woodley, he will need to defend his title first before having a “money fight” against other UFC champs. Woodley won the belt in July after knocking out Robbie Lawler in the first round. He eyed to gain the respect as the new welterweight champion by facing No. 1 contender Stephen Thompson, who’s on an eight-fight unbeaten streak.

The result of their UFC 205 bout was initially announced as a split decision in favor of Woodley. However. after a series of review, the decision turned out to be a majority draw. After the event, Woodley and Thompson received Fight of the Night bonus awards.
