UFC women’s bantamweight contender Julianna Pena aims to strengthen her chance for a title shot in fighting Valentina Shevchenko in the main event slot of UFC on FOX 23 on January 28, 2017, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
After Amanda Nunes dethroned Amanda Nunes, both Pena and Shevchenko expressed their intention to fight for the title.

Unfortunately, former women’s welterweight champion Ronda Rousey came on the scene, revealing that she’s ready to fight in the Octagon again. UFC president Dana White already stated that “Rowdy” will be fighting whoever is the champion at the time she decided to fight again.
Ronda Rousey is set to fight Amanda Nunes on December 30 at UFC 207 with the goal of regaining the belt. When the UFC 207 was announced, Julianna Pena expressed his frustration, believing that she deserved to be given a title shot.
Pena defeated Cat Zingano, a former top contender, at UFC 200 in July. Since then, Pena continues to campaign for a title shot. In her upcoming fight with Shevchenko, the 27-year-old mixed martial artist believes that there is no reason for the UFC to snub her if she wins.
“In this case, I was offered the main event spot with a little bit of a more sweetened deal and that made me realize that this is the fight that I need to take now. Once I get past this one I can set my sights on the title shot which is what I’ve been gunning for this whole entire time,” Pena said.
JULIANNA PENA THREATENS TO LEAVE UFC
Julianna Pena threatens to leave the UFC if they will not let her fight the champion once she defeats Shevchenko.
“That’s the notion that I picked up and if not this time I will raise hell. I think Dana knows that I’m a firecracker, and I definitely don’t think that he wants to see the wrath that will come if I don’t get a title shot after this. But I think that he definitely knows that I’m the clear cut answer for getting a title shot. So I don’t want to even put that in the universe. If I don’t get a title shot, I quit,” Pena said.
If Rousey and Holm succeed in their upcoming bout, UFC plans to schedule a rematch at featherweight. However, if things don’t go as expected, there is a higher possibility that Pena will be giving her much-awaited fight.
