Holly Holm suffered the first upset loss of her career at UFC 196 at the hands of Miesha Tate. The former boxer, who defeated Ronda Rousey in a shocking upset, suffered a near choke and was left unconscious by Tate.
The only thing that Holm wants right now is a rematch either with Tate or Rousey. In an interview with the Albuquerque Journal, Holm’s manager, Lenny Fresquez confirmed that the UFC offered Holm a fight with Cris Cyborg at the upcoming UFC 198. But Holm’s camp had to turn down the offer because Holm was not interested in it.
“Miesha was in Australia on vacation, so they were supposed to get with her this week. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we’ll know,” Fresquez said.
“But whether it’s Miesha or Ronda, those are the fights we’re interested in. [Fighting Rousey or Tate] is pretty much what Holly wants to do. If they have something else, it’s my job to present it to her. I’ve made her wishes known to them.”
Cris Cyborg will make her UFC debut at UFC 198 in Brazil against Leslie Smith. Along with Cyborg, many legendary Brazilian fighters will fight at UFC 198 on May 14.
Fresquez’s statements reiterate what Holm told Saturday at a news conference in Albuquerque.
“I really want that rematch, but I’m not the one with the title now,” she said, MMA Junkie reports.
“I’m not the one with the belt. So I have to be patient and wait for that opportunity to come. Right now, what’s on my heart is the rematch. (But) I don’t necessarily want to be too picky, either. I’m the one coming off a loss. I can’t expect to have everything handed to me, so we’ll see what happens.”
Holm might have to wait for that rematch because Dana White confirmed that Tate will have her first title defense against Ronda Rousey. Ronda Rousey is likely to make her Octagon comeback in November this year after fulfilling her movie commitments. Recently, Rousey in an interview said that her loss to Holm happened for a reason.
