Former UFC middleweight champion and former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will once again battle each other on November for UFC Fight Night 101 in Melbourne, Australia. Luke Rockhold vs Jacare Souza 2 is a rematch from their Strikeforce middleweight title fight at Strikeforce: Barnett vs Kharitonov in September 2011.
Rockhold got the best of Souza from their first fight via unanimous decision. The fight was deemed to be a very close fight.
According to Fox Sports, this will be a redemption fight for Rockhold (15-3) after dropping the title to Michael Bisping in June while Souza (23-4, 1 NC) has been making progress with an impressive 6-1 record since coming to the UFC. One of Souza’s biggest wins was over former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort.
Rockhold has not seen action since his shocking first round knockout loss to The Count at UFC 199. Rockhold’s first title defense was supposed to be against Chris Weidman but he withdrew due to injury. Rockhold had beaten Bisping once before but Bisping pulled off the upset even though coming in on such short notice.
Just recently, Rockhold was vocal about his fights and the money that comes in and said, “When the money is right, I’ll be ready to fight.”
In a report posted by Herald Sun, the middleweight division in UFC is currently one of the most competitive in the league. Seventh-ranked Australian Rob Whittaker, who is riding a five-fight win streak, is also from that division. The Australian is said to be eyeing for a title shot himself.
So who’s up for a Luke Rockhold vs Jacare Souza 2?
UFC Fight Night 101 is set to air on November 27 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
