With just a few days left before Stipe Miocic faces Alistair Overeem at UFC 203, the heavyweight champion shared a bold prediction on his foreseen outcome-that he will beat the Reem in Round One.
“I’m going to stop Overeem in the first round,” Miocic shared with Cleveland media. “I’m going to drop him. I know I can knock him out and he’s going to get knocked out. It’s going to happen. It’s inevitable once I touch him with my hands. He’s going to go to sleep. I’m going to walk out and we’re going to have a good time in Cleveland that night.”
Miocic is also looking to continue his three-fight win streak, by successfully defending his heavyweight title for the first time against the Reem.
“My mindset is I’m going to smash him,” added Miocic. “I’m not giving up that belt. I worked too hard to get it, and I’m not letting anyone take it from me, especially beating me in Cleveland? No way. I want that belt. I got it, and now, I’m keeping it. I don’t want to let go of it.”
Stipe Miocic not underestimating Overeem
But Miocic, who has been an impressive 15-2 in his MMA career, isn’t taking Overeem lightly, either. On the contrary, he is looking at this match as one of the most dangerous ones he’s faced, thus far, going into the ring against a man who has beaten the two fighters who have also handed him his two Ls.
“He’s an amazing kickboxer, he’s good on the ground and he’s strong,” Miocic shared with ESPN. “He’s real savvy and a veteran. But I’ve seen a lot of things where he makes mistakes. We all make mistakes and have flaws. But he hasn’t faced someone like me yet.”
Will Stipe Miocic make good on his word and give his hometown a round one KO? Catch UFC 203 on September 10 to find out.
