The rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz may not happen soon due to several issues and complications. Hence, UFC president Dana White may consider searching for another opponent for the UFC featherweight champion.
According to Fox Sports, White said that the negotiations have broken so badly that it’s gotten to the point where UFC officials are now considering other options for McGregor’s return to the Octagon despite his request to have a rematch with Nate Diaz.
“That was true. It wasn’t necessarily as much Nate Diaz as it was the management, but yeah I did (leave the dinner),” White said.
“The problem is what drives me crazy is when you have a contract. Everybody sits down at one point and we do a deal, everybody’s happy, you shake hands, you hug and then we move onto the next fight and everybody wants to blow up the deal. Obviously, for that last Conor-Nate fight, Nate Diaz made millions and millions of dollars and he stands to make even bigger money.”
Dana White tried to stop the rumors about the super fight between the retired boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor by setting up the McGregor-Diaz rematch at UFC 202. The deal with McGregor seemed to be fine but things changed after his conversation with Nate Diaz.
It seems like the disagreement between White and Diaz involves money. Nate Diaz wants to make bigger money than his first fight with McGregor in which White did not agree. If Diazis still adamant with his demand, it may affect Conor McGregor’s paycheck and the Irish fighter will not love that. He already stated that he does not take pay cuts since he wants to make lots of money every time he fights.
However, if Conor McGregor really wants to take revenge, he should agree with the demand of Nate Diaz. If he wants to continue to make more money, he should be ready to fight any opponent that White gives him. There is a greater possibility that it would be the winner between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo, who will be fighting for the interim featherweight belt at UFC 200.
Based on a previous report, Conor McGregor stated that he will be interested in moving back to the featherweight division once someone is already holding the interim featherweight belt. Since White prefers to include McGregor at UFC 202, Conor McGregor vs Frankie Edgar/Jose Aldo has a higher possibility than McGregor-Diaz rematch.
