Ronda Rousey is the emerging candidate to be the next opponent of the new women’s bantamweight champion Amana Nunes in the succeeding UFC events. Miesha Tate failed to defend her throne after being defeated by Amanda Nunes in Round 1 in UFC 200’s pay-per-view headliner at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
It seems like the ‘curse’ was passed by Holly Holm to Miesha Tate, wherein the former also failed to win his first title defense. After the winner has been officially declared, Ronda Rousey became the most favorite fighter to be the next opponent of Amanda Nunes.
However, there has been no specific details revealed about her return in the Octagon. UFC president Dana White admitted that he has no idea about the return of Ronda Rousey. But, he confirmed that once the former champ decided to fight again, she will be facing the reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
“Yeah, Ronda’s going to make that decision,” White said during UFC 200’s post-event show on FS1. “Hopefully – I would like to see her fight this year, but it could be early next year too.
“Whoever the champion is at the time is who Ronda would fight.”
There had been rumors that a rematch between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm will be happening soon. However, it seems like the unexpected outcome of the UFC 200 headliner changes everything that could happen in the future.
Amanda Nunes said that she is ready to face any opponent that Dana White will give to her in the future.
“I’m the champion now,” she said. “Whatever Dana White puts it front of me, I’m going to take it.”
“I want to go back to Brazil and enjoy this moment in my life,” she said. “I waited 10 years. I worked so hard. I know I have to change a lot of things and work on my patience like I did tonight.
“I’m so proud of myself, so now I need to go back home and enjoy it a little bit and see my coaches.”
If Ronda Rousey is still undecided in the coming months, Holly Holm and Julianna Pena will be given the chance to fight for the title. Julianna Pena strengthened his chance for a title shot when she defeated former title challenger Cat Zingano.
Meanwhile, Holly Holm first needs to win her fight against Valentina Shevchenko in UFC on FOX 20’s headliner on July 23.
