The struggle continued for the injury-ravaged Memphis Grizzlies after being defeated for the second time by the San Antonio Spurs, 94-68, in Game 2 of their playoff series on Tuesday at the AT&T Center.
The Spurs continued their dominance in their home court after only getting beaten once by the Golden State Warriors in the regular season.
Patty Mills led the Spurs with 16 points and the defensive player of the year Kawhi Leonard added 13 points to beat the Grizzlies who were still playing without starters Marc Gasol and Mike Conley due to injury.
The Spurs established a good performance in the defensive end limiting the Memphis to a franchise lowest postseason production of only 68 points.
In Game 1 against the Spurs, the Grizzlies also had their largest postseason defeat of 32 points.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich decided to rest his starters LaMarcus Aldridge, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard in the final quarter while Tim Duncan and Danny Green only played for a short period of time.
With the current state of the Memphis Grizzlies, there’s a possibility that they will be swept by the Spurs in their playoff series.
Despite the efforts of Tony Allen, who scored 12 points and Zach Randolph, who had 11 points and 12 rebounds, it seemed like the Spurs were too much for the Grizzlies.
After the game, coach Gregg Popovich gave praise to LaMarcus Aldridge for his excellent performance in the game.
“I just think LaMarcus played excellent defense tonight,” Popovich said via Fox Sports. “We didn’t double-team (Randolph) or anything like that. If he got in the lane, we tried to make a play I guess, but mostly L.A. gets the credit for doing a fine job on a great player.”
Game 3 of the playoff series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies will be on Friday at FedExForum.
