The Memphis Grizzlies gets treated with an early New Year’s gift as Rade Zagorac agrees to sign with them. Zagorac’s agent Misko Raznatovic confirmed the news that the 6-foot-8 forward has agreed to play for the Grizzlies next season.
In an interview with Sports Club, Raznatovic stated Zagorac has committed to joining the Grizzlies next season. He added that his client honors the “verbal commitment” between the two parties.
“It is almost certain that Rade Zagorac will sign with the Grizzlies next year. In NBA they call it ’verbal commitment’ – unlike Europe, where verbal agreements don’t mean much,” Raznatovic said. “In USA they stick to the agreement on the plan of development of a certain player. That is the main reason Zagorac stayed in Mega so that he could go to the NBA next season.”
Who is Rade Zagorac?
Zagorac is the 21-year old Serbian who the Boston Celtics drafted this year. The Celtics would then send his draft rights to the Grizzlies for a future first-round pick. But Zagorac signed a two-year contract with Mega Leks, a team playing in the Serbian league.
Playing with the Mega Leks, Zagorac averages 14.7 points with 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Aside from the Mega Leks, Zagorac also played for the Serbian U20 national team, which won the gold in 2015.
Josiah Turner of ESPN wrote that Zagorac would be a great addition to the Grizzlies being versatile with height. Zagorac could give the Grizzlies with another wing player, who can spread the floor and create plays for himself.
How will Zagorac fit with the Grizzlies?
The Grizzlies have lots of players hitting free agency next summer and Zagorac is certainly in the books. Parker Fleming/FanSided via Beale Street Bears writes that there is still uncertainty how the Grizzlies will look like next season.
Some of the Grizzlies, who will hit free agency include Zach Randolph, Vince Carter, Tony Allen, and JaMychal Green. Thus, committing to Zagorac makes sense for the Grizzlies as they will need valuable assets for next season.
Given his size, Zagorac could make an impact with the Grizzlies. He needs to continue to work with his outside shots and try powering his way inside the paint as well. Surely, David Fizdale won’t miss seeing his potentials when he flies in next summer.
