Brook Lopez remains optimistic with the Brooklyn Nets despite ending the 2016-17 NBA season as the worst team in the league. Lopez expressed his willingness to do anything to help the team become successful.
“I think there’s a lot of positivity. Our record wasn’t spectacular, but we all felt we grew a lot, we really improved, and our team never showed any quit. Those are important things to have,’’ Lopez told Inquirer.net (h/t New York Post). “We believe we’re building that foundation and it’s in place and we can do something down the line if we continue to play for one another. Moving forward, I’m just all in, trying to do all I can to help my team be successful. We’ve got a great group of guys who really have that team-first attitude and we really believe that we can do something special as long as we put the effort out and we put the work in.”
Brook Lopez, Jeremy Lin join force to rebuild the Nets
As of now, the Nets still feel the effect of the 2013 blockbuster trade where they lost multiple first-round picks to the Boston Celtics. However, there is a growing optimism in Brooklyn that the Nets can be great again under the leadership of Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin. Coach Kenny Atkinson brought a healthy environment with the Nets which could be a huge factor in luring free agents in the upcoming offseason.
With limited trade assets and draft picks, the Nets can only rebuild the team through the free agency market. Before the trade deadline, the Nets tried moving Lopez for two first-round picks. Some people believe they will try to trade the 29-year-old center again this offseason.
However, Lopez doesn’t look worried about trade rumors surrounding him. As of now, his main focus is helping the team improve and return to the playoffs. Lopez and Lin will be helping the Nets in convincing their free agent targets to play in Brooklyn next season.
Jeremy Lin reveals Nets’ offseason plan
Despite missing most of his first season with the Nets due to injury, Jeremy Lin believes they can enter the playoffs next season. Lin is currently working on improving his game, especially his three-point shooting. The Asian-American frequently mentioned the Nets’ team-first attitude in which he believes would help them become a great team once again.
“We want to build team, and we want to build family here. Guys really like each other, and it’s not going to be something that you have to force people to do. We’re going to want to work with each other, we’re going to want to hang with each other,’’ Lin said.
